“Next east to the Reid house was a two-story frame house surrounded by an iron fence. This was the home of Dr. Isaiah Simpson and his wife, who was born Sallie Patton.” [Robbins – White Historic Tour]
This was a lovely home owned by Dr. and Mrs. Isaiah Simpson. William B. White, Jr. has written that the house has surrounded by a lovely iron fence and we know that Dr. Simpson, the son of Hugh Simpson, maintained a medical office in downtown Rock Hill as well as traveled regularly to Richburg, S.C. where he also maintained a dental office. He is said to have ridden the L and C Railroad from Chester our to Richburg weekly.
Dr. Simpson was a graduate of the Maryland School of Dentistry in 1867 and moved to Rock Hill shortly thereafter and opened his practice in what was then the Periwinkle Tea room building on the south side of Main Street. His son, Dr. W.R. Simpson later joined him in practice. His home and part of the adjoining lot appear to have been used to build the new Cobb House Apartment Complex.
The Herald reported on Jan 20, 1920 – “That Dr. W.E. Simpson has purchased the Mobley lot on East Main Street — it is understood that Dr. Simpson contemplates erection of a house soon.”
