The McElwee Store ledger of 1915 states that George P. Smith and wife, Mannie H. live at this address. He is listed as a salesman for the Milling Company.
COBB HOUSE HISTORY
Rock Hill Herald, January 21, 1952; The Cobb House apartments opened today. It is owned by J. C. Long of Charleston and is named in honor of Rock Hill banker Charlie Cobb. It has 50 apartments, two penthouse apartments, and three office spaces on the first floor. The resident manager is Mrs. F. H. Moore. This is one of five apartment buildings constructed in SC with mortgage insurance from the
Federal Housing Administration, all of an identical design. Others are in Orangeburg, Sumter, Greenwood, and Anderson.
Rock Hill Herald, February 13, 1952:
Advertisement for apartments for rent in the Cobb House. Business spaces on main floor and apartments available for rent of $65 per month. Contact Mrs. F. H. Moore, Resident Manager.
Rock Hill Herald, October 15, 1959:
The Federal Housing Administration has foreclosed on the loan for the Cobb House held by J. C. Long of Charleston. After a number of delays, the building was sold to Hugo Sims and Henry R. Sims, II of Orangeburg. The next highest bidders were Robert S. Friedman and Sam Breen of Rock Hill.
