The Herald reported on Feb. 19, 1902 – “That the post office of Barberville, Pleasant Valley and Belair, have been discontinued on account of the new rural free delivery mail route just opened up from Fort Mill to these places.”
Kimberly Sutton wrote R&R on 1/13/16 – “I just found your site and realize that you are in Rock Hill. I was interested in the schoolhouse photos that you had posted. My grandmother taught at Barberville School in Indian Land/Fort Mill in maybe the 1920-1930 dates. Her name was Rebecca Delleney but married my grandfather, Alexander Sutton. Our family is the Sutton Road family. Also the Suttons Spring family in York.”
Please enjoy this structure and all those listed in Roots and Recall. But remember each is private property. So view them from a distance or from a public area such as the sidewalk or public road.
Do you have information to share and preserve? Family, school, church, or other older photos and stories are welcome. Send them digitally through the “Share Your Story” link, so they too might be posted on Roots and Recall.
Thanks!
