City Directories and History: “This was my grandfather’s and father’s home which burned in the 1960’s or early 70’s. It was located in a grove of pecan trees about 4 or 5 miles below McConnells on Hwy 322 a few hundred feet before the intersection with Burris Road. (Several homes in the Turkey Creek area were burned during this time including the Kirkpatrick home and a Hafner home.) My great
grandfather, James Perry Aycock purchased the home and farm after he sold his mercantile in Rock Hill. (James Perry Aycock signed both the first and second petitions to incorporate Rock Hill. He was born and raised along the Catawba River near Nations Ford. He sold the Catawba River land to the Suttons during Reconstruction.) James Perry Aycock had a more profitable store in Chester and his second wife was a Emma Kirkpatrick from Chester. My father and uncle, who inherited the home and farm from their father, Sam, sold it in the late 40’s.” – Written and submitted to R&R by Agnes Love, 5.11.14
My father and uncle both ended up becoming teachers and elementary school principals and daddy actually was a teacher at Olive School as was my mother.
