South Carolina’s preservation website, RootsandRecall.com, (R&R) offers numerous opportunities to teach students about their local architecture, culture and heritage. Students respond to digital learning and R&R can easily assist YOU in presenting information as well as enhance students appreciation of state history and landmarks. R&R is a free community resource – a tool for teaching at all grade levels.  As one S.C. teacher recently expressed, “My students want it all on their iPad or iPhone.”

Roots and Recall’s content is built around specific addresses, divided into 46 counties.  Searching for data is best performed in short phrases, specific names and titles. Don’t forget your comments and input of historic material, document, and images to enhance teaching local history is welcome.   For instance, if you are aware of a link to a web page that you frequent to assist in the classroom, which would be a useful teaching tool added to R&R, tell us.  Students are also encouraged to share their own family stories and old family albums for preservation on R&R.

R&R is available to assist educators in streamlining further website links and menus in coordinating curricular requirements.
