The Yorkville Enquirer reported on July 27, 1887 – “Last Sunday night, while to congregation of the colored ME Church were assembling for a service, a large chandelier suspended from the ceiling fell with a crash. No one was hurt and buy prompt action the building was prevented from catching fire from the oil. The chandelier cost $32., and is ruined.”
City Directories and History: 1908 – Listed in Brooklyn section, Rev. S.S. Watson, Pastor – 1908 Rev. Middleton J. Ingram, colored presiding elder York & Chester Dist. AME Zion Church,
The Yorkville Enquirer of May 2, 1922 reported – “The AME Zion Church of York, (meaning Clinton Chapel AME), has let the contract for a new church building to be built on West California Street on the site occupied by the present church building which will be torn away. Simon Williams, colored contractor of Rock Hill, has the contract for the church which will cost about $9,500. Rev. D.C. Crosby is the pastor.”
