City Directories and History: The Kimbrell – Hutchison home was moved from the corner of Falls and Squires roads and lovingly remodeled to save the home from demolition. Note on the 1910 Walker map, this house is shown as the S.J. Kimbrell family, in the bottom right section of the map. The home is a typical turn of the century circa 1900-1910 home, a design once commonly found throughout the county.
The Rock Hill Herald of Nov. 13, 1884 reported – “Mr. S.J. Kimbrell fell from a wagon late Saturday night and had his face badly torn and cut on the pavement.”
The Rock Hill Herald reported on Oct. 29, 1885 – “Mr. John G. Steele and his son, have established a kennel for the breeding and training of pointer dogs on their farm near Rock Hill. It will run in connection of breeding thoroughbred horses.”
The Rock Hill Herald of Aug. 23, 1888 contained an article taken from the Charlotte Chronical of Aug. 20. – “Reporting a long precession of railroad laborers, mules, and carts belonging to Mr. J.T. Roddey passed through Charlotte. Mr. Roddey had just finished a contract with the 3C’s railroad and was transferring to Winston, N.C. to work on a new contract with the Roanoke Southern railroad. The group included 26 carts, several wagon, and 80 men and women, all in charge of Capt. S.J. Kimball. The group passed through Charlotte quietly, but north of the city they were accused of robbing gardens, shooting chickens and tearing down fences. Sheriff Cooper led a force that caught up with them north of Davidson College and several men were arrested.”
