City Directories and History: 1958 – Daisy Gist, 1966 – Thomas C. Adams
Built 1897-1898 by Misses Daisy and Maggie Gist, this Queen Anne Victorian cottage with a hip roof is 1 1/2 stories high and features a one-story bay with gable roof, imbricated shingles, and unusual woodwork; a one-story open porch, with a flat roof and three columns, and a one-story wing with a gable foundation and clapboard exterior. The Yorkville Enquirer reported on July 27, 1892 – “The Yorkville Graded School trustees meet and elected Prof. W.W. Lewis as Supt. for next year. Teachers at the white school are: Maggie Gist, Lila Peek, Ida Meek, and Annie Marshall (music teacher). The two colored schools will be consolidated and teachers are: Allen Alexander and W.R. Douglas.”
In 1920 the census states that Fanny Gist, the mother, is living with here two daughters, Margaret and Daisy.
