The Yorkville Enquirer reported on June 4, 1885 – “A tornado passed through York County last week. Properties impacted were: Plantation of J.C. Chambers, Esq. on Bullocks Creek, R.M. Whitsides at Meeks Hill who lost fences and trees, Mr. J.T. Summerford had several small buildings unroofed, Mr. J.A. Smith near Silver Creek, North of Howell’s Ferry Rd., Mr. Hugh Wallace who’s kitchen was unroofed, and Mr. William Carson who had his home unroofed, Mr. Harvey Dickson three miles north of Yorkville had eight farm building destroyed and the chimney of his home, and Mr. Thomas N. Woods, three miles north of Yorkville near Union Church had his barn damaged.”
