City Directories and History: The J.L. Moore Homestead, ca. 1875-80, was heavily remodeled in the 1980’s and in 2022 the new owners are taking the house back to the basics and removing old layers of modernization to reveal a nice late 19th century farm house. The old Moore Homestead on Howell Road was once a showplace and sat on high ground overlooking their massive farm complex. Note, the house originally faced what is now Rhonda Drive (the old road to Bethesda Church), not Howell Road. The section of Howell Road from Rhonda Drive to Hwy. 324 was created in post WWII for development purposes.
Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Moore were from Bethesda and are buried at Bethesda Pres. Churchyard. However, for most of their adult lives they lived in Rock Hill and just prior to his death, they had built a lovely home on Oakland Avenue. See links this page!

Please enjoy this structure and all those listed in Roots and Recall. But remember each is private property. So view them from a distance or from a public area such as the sidewalk or public road.
Do you have information to share and preserve? Family, school, church, or other older photos and stories are welcome. Send them digitally through the “Share Your Story” link, so they too might be posted on Roots and Recall.
