City Directories and History: The Yorkville Enquirer reported on Feb. 9, 1917 – “The York Co Board of Commissioners signed a contract Wednesday, with the Virginia Bridge and Iron Co., of Roanoke, to build a bridge over the Catawba River between the Ebenzer Township and the Fort Mill Township to replace the bridge destroyed by last July’s flood. The price is $44,400. It will be located at the foots of what is known as the Cherry Road and will 980 ft. long. The bridge is solid steel and reinforced concrete.”
