City Directories and History: White’s Store in Fort Mill, was that of the White and Chambers Company Store and was conducting a prosperous business in the second quarter of the 19th century. George P. White shopped at the store and had his mail delivered to the store prior to his moving to what became Rock Hill, S.C.
Harvey Teal’s S.C. Post Office History, 1989 shows that Hugh White served as the postmaster operating from 1811 – 1827 under the name of Pine Hill Post Office. From 1827 – 1832 it was operated by William E. White.

Louise Pettus states in one of her many articles that the Old White’s Store building was rented to the firm of Barnhardt and Coltharp Company in 1852 by the White family.
