City Directories and History: As soon as the railroad came to Rock Hill, Mrs. Ann H. White began dealing with towns well beyond Rock Hill and the state. The H. H. Hickman Company purchased a large quantity of cotton from her, date unknown, and paid top dollar. One of these sales was completed under the auspices of Mr. H.H. Hickman as early as 1866. The sale took place in his name but the receipt was in Ann H. White’s account. In 1866 she sold cotton in Augusta and received a check for $2,378. Coincidentally, Ann H. White took a train trip to Augusta in 1872, presumably to also sell cotton.
