The Yorkville Enquirer reported on March 23, 1871 – “The store of Mr. Thomas Douglas, located on the Thorn’s Ferry Road about nine miles from Yorkville, was attacked on night last week. Mr. S.P. Hutchinson, employed by Mr. Douglas, was awaken by shots being fired. He managed to escape with most of the store’s cash. Four men have been arrested are: Harvey Killian, Lafayette McCaw, Dan McCaw, and Elias Evans.”

Meeks Hill Post Office – Postmaster Eli Meek 1838 – CSA
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on June 4, 1885 – “A tornado passed through York County last week. Properties impacted were: Plantation of J.C. Chambers, Esq. on Bullocks Creek, R.M. Whitsides at Meeks Hill who lost fences and trees, Mr. J.T. Summerford had several small buildings unroofed, Mr. J.A. Smith near Silver Creek, North of Howell’s Ferry Rd., Mr. Hugh Wallace who’s kitchen was unroofed, and Mr. William Carson who had his home unroofed, Mr. Harvey Dickson three miles north of Yorkville had eight farm building destroyed and the chimney of his home, and Mr. Thomas N. Woods, three miles north of Yorkville near Union Church had his barn damaged.” |
