The Yorkville Enquirer reported on Aug. 10, 1871 – “Fire was discovered in the store room adjoining the Lindsey Building occupied by Mrs. E. Dickenson as a miliary shop. The fire began in a box of rags and was extinguished with little damage.”
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on Sept. 21, 1882 – “The firm of J.R. Lindsay and Co., is a new house which will open in a few days. Capt. Lindsay is well known through his connection to Hunter, Oats and Company.”

The Yorkville Enquirer reported on May 8, 1884 – “The firm of J.R. Lindsay has been closed and the entire stock of goods has been sold to Mr. John R. Ashe. This is the result of the death of Mr. R.M. Lindsay, the senior partner. Mr. Ashe will continue the business in the same location.”
C.W. Wallace was an early insurance agency in Yorkville – location unknown.
Following the massive fire on the west side of N. Congress St., on June 20, 1888 the YV Enquirer reported on the Lindsay property: ”
To the south of the Dobson building was the brick building of two store rooms owned by Capt. J. R. Lindsay, separated from the Dobson building by an alley. One part of this building was rented by J. W. Dobson and the other part by the store of W. B. Moore and Company. The first floor of the building was saved from the fire. The Enquirer of July 11, 1888 reported that Mr. A. Frank Woods has the contract for repairing the brick building of Capt. J. Robert Lindsay, damaged in the fire. He has begun the work. Nearly all the wood was burned away from the brick walls. The iron roof will be replaced.”
The YV paper reported on June 26, 1889 – “Capt. J.R. Lindsay has broken ground for the addition to be built on the south side of his brick storehouse on Main Street. (Congress St)
The YV Enquirer reported on Jan. 11, 1893 – “Capt. J.R. Lindsay and family are occupying their house on the corner of Lincoln and Charlotte Streets.”
The Yorkville Enquirer of Jan. 18, 1893 reported, “Capt. J.R. Lindsay, engaged for two years in the life insurance business in N.C., has returned to Yorkville and has fitted up a handsome office above the store of W.M. Houston and Company.”
