The Rock Hill Record reported on May 17, 1904 – “That S. M. Carothers has bought the lot at Tirzah on which the Thomasson Store burned last fall, and has a storehouse almost completed on it and will open soon with a full stock of dry goods and groceries.” Note that Ebenezer Gettys who lived in this home subsequently, also had deep roots in the rural Tirzah community of York County.
The Rock Hill Record reported on March 21, 1907 – “Listed the sale of two houses and lots on Hampton Street from W.T. Steele to S.M. Carothers of Tirzah.”
The RH Record reported on Aug 15, 1907 – “Mr. S.M. Carothers of Trizah, who purchased the W.T. Steele house on Hampton Street sometime ago, moved in Tuesday.”
