City Directories and History: Sharon’s Sweet Potato Association constructed this building in 1938 as a facility to cure their farm raised sweet potato crop and have it uniformly cured to market standards.
The Herald reported on May 17, 1941 – “Fire destroyed the building of the Sharon Cooperative Exchange at a loss of $2,500.”
The Rock Hill Herald on July 7, 1941 reported – “The Sharon Cooperative Exchange has been rebuilt. It includes a feed mill and warehouse. Dr. E.B. Hunter is President, J.S. Rainey, V.P., B.P. Rambo is Sec-Tres., and the directors are: W.T. Sherer, J.A. Whitesides, and W.W. Latham. The manager is Edd Burgess and the potato house is under the management of L.B. Sherer.”
