Mr. Robert S. Poag, the brother of the owner, died in this house. Mr. Poag was the farm overseer for the Rambo – Williams family and ran their farm for several years. Note, Mr. Poag’s connection to the Johnson St. house is that his sister, Anna, was Mrs. Hicklin (widow of William Cloud Hicklin, of Millwood plantation near Chester). Interestingly, his mother was also a Poag, Rebecca Narcissa Poag. Courtesy of Wm. Cloud Hicklin, 3/4/23.
*** Also note on R&R there is correspondence between Mr. Rambo and Mr. Poag in 1932 – 1934. See these papers on the Rambo House page.
