“Facing Black Street, to the south side of the Alston house, was the small frame house (built close to the street) of Mr. Gus Erwin, who drove the horses that pulled the fire wagon. His sister, a trained nurse named Carrie Erwin, lived with him in this house. There was another sister, who married Mr. Ned Marshall’s brother and moved to Columbia.” [Robbins – White Tour Booklet]
Meredith P. Hutto and wife Arabelle, a dispatcher for Southern Railroad lived at this address and held an account with the McElwee Store in 1915-16.
