“A lovely old log home once graced this Yorkville lot.”
City Directories and History: Allison,1958 – John T. Roper, MD, 1966 – Not Listed
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on Oct. 3, 1861 – “J.R. Schorb, resident ambrotypist continues to take pictures in various types of photography at his rooms one door west of the Presbyterian church.”
At the time of the 1910 Sanborn Map survey this location appears to have had a wooden house located here next to a tin shop. In the late 1960’s the old log house that was uncovered after the county purchased the property for its use was to have been stored at the county farm and later moved to Historic Brattonsville for restoration. Then, County Supervisor, Mr. Ed Allen and State Senator S. B. Mendenhall often worked together to help preserve local architecture. It was slated for restoration as part of York County’s Bicentennial project but was never funded and fell into disrepair while in the old “poor house barn” on what is today (2013) the Moss Justice Center property.
