The YV Enquirer reported on May 30, 1894 – “Mr. T. (L). Balfour of Rock Hill has recently been employed in the painting dept. of the Carolina Buggy Company (Roc Hill location).”
The Herald reported on Oct. 6, 1900 – “Mrs. T.N. Balfour is in the millinery business upstairs in the National Union Bank Building.” On Jan. 28, 1903 Mrs. T.N. Balfour has moved her millinery parlors into the rooms formerly occupied by the Wilson and Wilson Law Offices over the National Union Bank.”
The Herald on July 23, 1902 – “Mr. T.N. Balfour has just completed a very neat oval sign for the Standard Drug and Manufacturing Company.”
The Herald reported on Aug. 13, 1902 – That a lightning storm struck several houses. The splendid residence of Wm. Mitchell was struck by lightning and heavily damaged by fire. The family was in the back of the house and was not aware of the fire until told by their neighbor, T.N. Balfour.
By 1916 the Catawba Lumber Company was in full development as one of Rock Hill’s major suppliers of lumber and building materials to an expanding Rock Hill. The lumber company also began extending its’ own lot to include a great deal of rear acreage along the north side of West Main Street.
The Herald reported on May 10, 1902 – “A building, two stories in height, is being erected on the lot to the rear of the home of Mr. Henry Fudge, to be used as a repair and paint shop. Mr. T.N. Balfour expects to return to Rock Hill from Chase City, Va., to occupy the building. He is a good workman and should have success.”
The RH Record reported on Sept. 10, 1908 – “There was a small fire this morning at the residence of Mr. S.N. Sowell, on West Main Street. Mr. T.N. Balfour, who lives across the street give the alarm.”
