City Directories and History: Originally a part of the Johnson – Rawlinson – Hutchison property, the edge of the large lot was sold to the City of Rock Hill to build the Rock Hill Municipal Water – Pumping System at this location. Later in the mid 20th century the facility was demolished and People’s Insurance Company located here and later Allied Payroll Services.
The Herald reported on Aug 10, 1901 – “Mrs. Hutchison purchased the house and three lots for $2,500. W.L. Roddey bought two lots in the grove, fronting the Southern Railroad, J.M. Cherry – W.W. Boyce, and W.L. Roddey purchased .lots: fronting a street which will run parallel to the SC and G Railroad (CCC’s).”
The SC Architects: 1885-1935 Wells & Dalton, 1992 attributed to architect, Nat Gaillard Walker the construction of the Rock Hill Water and Electric Company office building in 1910, “the firm of Jones and Walker.”
