On Feb. 9, 1901 the Herald reported, “The new firm of J. Giles and Co., is in one of the store rooms opposite the Central Hotel.”
The Herald reported on July 19, 1902 – “Mr. W.S. Nicholson has sold his grocery and confectionary business to J.P. Giles and Company. The business will continue at the same stand and Mr. P.A. Workman is now with the firm.”
The Rock Hill Record of Feb. 2, 1904 contained an ad for J.P. Giles Grocery, located at 147 East Main Street. The advertisement featured hams for sale at this store.
The Rock Hill Record on Feb. 22, 1912 contained an ad announcing the purchase of the Cash Market at 147 East Main St., by John A. Neely, who has worked there for some time. It will now be known as Neely’s Market and will sell the very best of meats.
The Herald reported on Aug. 10, 1914 – “that a new store building will be erected on Main St., by John T. Roddey. It is one the vacant lot opposite the Air Dome. It will be a one story brick building with plate glass and will be 35′ – 120’…”
The Herald contained an ad for Dec. 2, 1918 for the RH Candy and Fruit Company with two stores located on Main and Trade Streets.
The Record reported on April, 9, 1923 – on the upcoming wedding of James Stathopoulos of the Rock Hill Fruit and Candy Company and Ms. Alexandria Ardamis of Spartanburg. The wedding will be held on April 15th.
