The Rock Hill Record reported on Sept. 17, 1908 – “Fire completely destroyed the home on Johnston Street, occupied by Mrs. John A. Shurley and owned by Mrs. E.B. Mobley. Borders in the house included; Dr. Young, Mr. J. H. Powe, Clerk at Phillips Drug Co., and Bob Crook, all of whom lost their belongings. Mrs. Shurley lost her furniture and belongings.”
The Rock Hill Record on Oct. 8, 1908 – “Carpenters are at work rebuilding the Shurley House, which was destroyed by fire recently.”
The RH Record on Dec. 21, 1908 reported – “Mr. J.A. Shurley and family are again occupying the house which was burned several months ago. It has now been repaired.”
The Herald contained an ad on Feb. 15, 1924 for the market, Fant’s Market and Fruit Company at 115 or 119 West White Street.
The McElwee Store ledger of 1915 states that the Jess Moore family had an account at the store.
