City Directories and History: 1908 – Oliver E. Wilkins (Lula B.), Pres. First National Bank, 1958 – Walter W. McConnell, 1966 – W. W. McConnell
A pivotal house, built in 1906 by O. E. Wilkins, founder of the now-defunct First National Bank. The bank was located in the
building directly across from the Courthouse. The McConnell family, who were successful merchants in York, were the next owners. This house is an unusual example of Victorian sandstone construction, called by some “The Cape Cod Villa” Style. Clay brick simulates sandstone block. The brick was hand-formed and fired on site. The house features magnificent hand-inlaid parquet flooring in the three front rooms and large entry hallway (each area has a
different design). Classical-influenced high-relief mantels with Greek mythic ceramic inlays highlight the fireplaces in the parlors and formal dining room. [Courtesy of the Yorkville Historical Society – 2002]
