Erected in the early 1870’s by John Kennedy Coleman. The structure features a bracketed cornice, which is typical of buildings of this era. The second story is covered with rock-faced sheet-metal panels. Large sheet-metal over cornice ornament. The front is embossed with the Mesker Company morning glories. The building had a public hall on the second floor, which was often used for entertainment and graduations before the City Hall was built.
In the 1890’s this location was used by the Lindsay Mercantile Company, a father (William Lindsay) and son (Joseph Lindsay) well into the 20th century. The family operated three stores including a grocery, a men’s department store, and a dry goods operation. In the early 20th century it is reported that the Hot Hustler’s Racquet Store also operated at this location. [CRPC]
