City Directories and History: 1908 – John Reed, 1940 – George A. Hennies, M.D., 1958 – George A. Hennies, 1978 – Southern Bank and Trust
This wonderful corner home was the residence of Dr. George A. Hennies of Chester, and later known as
the George R. Dawson house. The Dawson family, one of Chester’s very prominent and prosperous, owned the Dawson Supply Company (Chester Hardware Company), and contributed significantly to the successes of Chester, S.C. The house was unfortunately razed in circa 1971, in the name of progress, to make room for a new bank branch building. Wyatt Insurance Company now occupies this location.

Please enjoy this structure and all those listed in Roots and Recall. But remember each is private property. So view them from a distance or from a public area such as the sidewalk or public road.
Do you have information to share and preserve? Family, school, church, or other older photos and stories are welcome. Send them digitally through the “Share Your Story” link, so they too might be posted on Roots and Recall.
