City Directories and History: The Ferguson Barber home was an unusually large house which was below the Methodist Church. Later it was bought by Capt. Wylie. The Henry McFadden family ran a hostel there for years. It was owned by Mr. W. B. Gladden when it was burned. R. H. Gladden built his home on this lot. Historian Harvey S. Teal’s Post Office Data in S.C., states: “Lists the Rich Hill Crossroads PO as operating from 1855 – Civil War. F.H. Barber, Postmaster.”
The Herald reported on May 31, 1883 – “Mr. T.C. Ward came to Rock Hill recently to visit family. He has the contract for building Mr. F.H. Barber’s residence at Richburg, work on which was commenced yesterday. He also has a contract for a cottage at Richburg for Mr. William White.”
