City Directories and History: This cottage built in the early 19th century, was originally located on the corner lot facing North Congress Street. When the Elliott family acquired the property in the 1830’s the small house on the lot was moved to the current location facing College. This house is reported to be one of the oldest remaining structures in Winnsboro and members of the Stevenson family, including Maymie W. Stevenson have lived here for decades. [Courtesy Chamber of Commerce] It appears on the 1912 Sanborn Insurance Map as a frame dwelling listed as #8 College Street.
