The Rock Hill Herald reported on Sept. 8, 1881 – “Harmony Church, of which Rev. J.H. Edwards is pastor, is now being remodeled. (On Oct. 27, the Herald further stated, T.C. Ward of Rock Hill is is the contractor for this work.) The building will soon be ready for painting, the materials for which will be supplied by Mr. J.B. Johnson of Rock Hill. He has on hand two tons of lead and ten barrels of oil for various paint jobs.”

The Rock Hill Herald reported on Jan. 12, 1888 – “Harmony Baptist Church has been sharing a minister with the Rock Hill church for a number of years. They now wish to have their own minister and have bought a neat dwelling for a parsonage. It is in a good location and has 44 acres of land. It is within .5. miles of a country store where the PO is kept., three miles from a rail depot, four miles from the church and a mile from a good school.”
The RH Herald reported on June 9, 1900 – “The new post office recently established at Harmony Church is known as Collins, with Mr. Claude Collins as Postmaster.”
The Rock Hill Record reported on Nov. 9, 1908 – In the news from Lyle, S.C. – “Mr. J.L. Thomas has had carpentry work done on his beautiful cottage and is now having it repainted. Mr. W.T. Allen is also having some repairs done on his house. Our school is progressing again under the management of Ms. Lottie Thomas.”
The RH Record reported on Dec.3, 1908 – “The Harmony Baptist church is planning a new building. The members have been planting extra cotton patches for several years, with the proceeds designated for the church. The building fund is now at $7,122., they propose to build a substantial brick building of Greek Revival style with large columns on the front. J.Q. Adams is the pastor.”
The RH Record of July 19, 1909 carried news from Lyle. “Work on the Baptist Church is progressing rapidly. The church is to be completed by fall, but they are trying to complete the baptismal pool by summer.”
The RH Record on Aug. 9, 1909 reported there were servings at Harmony Baptist Church for the laying of the cornerstone for the new sanctuary. It was attended probability by the largest crowd ever seen in Chester County. The building will cost between $8-10,000. The membership of the church is more than 300, and Dr. J.Q. Adams of Charlotte is the pastor.
The RH Record of Dec. 2, 1909 – “Harmony Baptist Church was dedicated last Sunday. W.T. Brasington was the contractor and Henry Thomas, Chairman of the Building Committee. The new church is located a few yards north of the site of the old church, which has been rolled a few hundred yards down the road and transformed into a school house. The new church cost between $9-10,000. of which $750. is still owed. The beautiful double memorial window on the southside is dedicated to Capt. J.A. Thomas and his wife.”
