City Directories and History: The original structure was made of hewn logs and consisted of only two or three rooms. A large cook chimney of native stone was at one end of the log cabin and later several additional rooms were added to make it an attractive farm dwelling. It is reported that in 1794, while on his travels through S.C., Bishop Francis Asbury stopped at the original cabin.
In January of 1875, John James Dodds moved into the house and later purchased it from Holmes Hardin, Sr. It has remains in the Dodds family for generations. [CRPC] In 1906 it was known as the “Robin Walker Place.” However, it transferred ownership from Robert Walker to J.J. McClure in 1857, a tract of 356 acres even earlier. In the 1906 transaction, the property went from Holmes Hardin to James Dodd. The Dodd family continues ownership in 2012. The house is off of Quinn Road, one of Chester’s oldest historic roads.
