His wife was also a member of Oak Grove Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where she was active in the work of the church as a Sunday School teacher, children’s worker, and active in the work of the women of the church. He was the bookkeeper for Waters and Waters partnership and assisted his brother, Brice, in the operation of the saw mill, grist mill and cotton gin. He also operated a farm. He built his own home in Rodman which is the home of the Hall family today. Chalmers had an unusual knowledge of the Bible and enjoyed discussing it with others. He was a sincere Christian man with a kind and gentle spirit who was always willing to lend a helping hand to others, especially to his widowed sister, Mary Jane Waters Gibert, and her family.”

This simple Queen Anne style farm house has a long history of ownership in the Waters family of the Rodman community. The Waters, a prosperous family of farmers were also involved in cotton ginning as well as the sawing of timber. Until the 1950’s much of their farming operation remained intact and was closely associated with the Gill’s general store that operated in the same proximity. The house appears to be have been constructed in the early 20th century but could have simply been remodeled to reflect that architectural period.
