2484 Rodman Road
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on May 29, 1889 on an excursion from Chester to Monroe on the new GC&N Railroad. “A few tickets have been sold between Chester and the Catawba River, and in order to board these ticket holders stops were made at Rodman, Hicklin, and Edgemoor, towns with no past at all, not much present and immense futures.”
City Directories and History: Oak Grove ARP church was once a thriving center of religious and social activities in the Rodman community of Chester County, SC. Originally constructed at the turn of the 20th century as the ARP church was prospering throughout the region. The church remained active until the 1980’s when the rural population of the area had changed dramatically and the older supportive members have died or moved. In the 21st century the church building has been used as a gathering spot and voting precinct for the area and provided a place to hold cultural activities and musical events.
The community was also host to a 1908 military maneuver. This exercise was recalled as having taken place near the Saye home.
