City Directories and History: 1940 – James W. Crowder, 1958 – James W. Crowder, 1978 – Louise K. Crowder
The Crowder home, circa 1940, is a handsome reminder of traditional architecture highly popular in the late 1940’s and 1950’s. Dr. Crowder was a well known – respected, dentist in Chester who maintained his office on Main Street. His wife Louise, was known throughout the region, for her extensive historical research and publications. The local historical society states the house was constructed on the site of the demolished home of S.C. Supreme Court Justice John Hardin Marion.
