City Directories and History: 1940 – William R. Wallace, 1958 – William R. Wallace, 1978 – Vacant
Circa 1930, this brick home was the residence of William R. Wallace, M.D. one of those great old doctors who made house calls and worked prolifically for his patients. He practiced medicine at the Pryor Hospital, Chester Hospital and the Chester Sanitarium.
WU’s Pettus Archives has plans for this dwelling draw by Rock Hill architect, Mr. A.D. Gilchrist dated April 1928.
“A native of Chester County, born 17 June 1882, Dr. Wallace is a son of Robert and Martha Peay Wallace. He married the former Lucille Melton on 30 June 1915, and they were the parents of four sons: William R. Wallace, Junior, Furman T. Wallace, Dexter M. Wallace (now deceased), and Lucius Robert (Bobby) Wallace.
Mrs. Wallace, an active community worker in her own right, died suddenly in December, 1974, at the Wallace home on York Street.”
