The Yorkville Enquirer of Nov. 19, 1890 – “The residence of Thomas H. White is nearing completion and he is preparing to move in…”
City Directories and History: 1908 – J.G. White, 1940 – John G. White, 1958 – Bessie White, 1978 – John M. White
On Sept. 24, 1890 the Yorkville Enquire reported – “Thomas White is having a residence erected opposite John C. McFadden.”
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on Dec. 9, 1891 – “Mr. John G. White has moved into his residence on Fishdam Street.”
In circa 1891, this home was constructed by J.R. Simrill (contractor), for the brother of Thomas White. John G. White (at 124 West End), he was a partner at the firm of Joseph Wylie & Company. As his economic outlook improved in the late 19th century, he remodeled the house in 1898 in the newer Classical Revival style incorporating modern conveniences such as electricity and plumbing. This remains as one of Chester’s largest and most interesting homes, clearly an impressive addition to West End’s neighborhood of outstanding architecture.
Mr. White moved to Wylie Street in 1908, to the former home owned by S.M. Jones.
The Rock Hill Herald reported on Jan. 8, 1902 – “Mr. T.H. White, who has been cashier of the Exchange Bank of Chester, has resigned his position and has bought the interest of Mr. T.B. Woods in the firm of Joseph Wylie and Company. Members of the firm are now; the Estate of the late Joseph Wylie, John G. White, T.H. White, and John R. Alexander. The health of Mr. Woods has caused him to be confined to his home.”
