The Rock Hill Herald reported on Dec. 19, 1896 – “In Landsford news, two nice homes are being erected here, one by J.J. Jordon (Jordan), and the other by Dr. W.B. Coxe. Dr. Coxe is currently in New York City taking a special course in Surgery. He is popular and has a good practice here.
The Chester City Directory shows a house at this location as early as 1908 as does the 1920 records. U.S. Census stating that it was the home lived in by Dr. and Mrs. William B. Cox. However, the home was owned by Ms. Lelia Devaga who operated it as a boarding home. Dr. Cox practiced medicine here in Chester and was associated for years with the Pryor Hospital.
