The Yorkville Enquirer reported on June 12, 1879 – “Mr. John K. Coleman is remodeling the Yellow House on Depot Street. When the work is completed the building will be greatly improved and will make a desirable storeroom.”

Number 115 Gadsden Street no longer serves as a working number for the 911 call system. It is the area now occupied between #’s113 and 117, and the alley is now the area which would have been designated as #115. The old building called the J.K. Coleman Building was destroyed by fire in 1989.
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on Jan. 23, 1879 – “Mr. J.K. Coleman is procuring materials and making other arrangements for enlarging his building, in which is Coleman’s Hall. On Feb. 27, 1879 the paper added further – “The foundation has been commenced on Mr. Coleman’s new building, which he will erect adjoining his present building known as Coleman’s Hall.”
The Yorkville Enquirer of July 1, 1880 reported – “Mr. John K. Coleman has begun work on a brick building on Depot Street adjoining the shop of Parker and Wood.”
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on May 27, 1886 – “Lightening struck Mr. J.K. Coleman’s Brick building on Depot Street.”
The Rock Hill Record reported on July 9, 1908 that – “the local Chester Phone Office was destroyed by fire and residences will be without phone service for at least a month. The second floor of the building was badly burned and the switchboard and other equipment was destroyed. The operators Mattie and Maurice Gladden, were unable to fight the fire. Pres. of the Co., R.R. Hafner and Manager is John Bell.”
