The RH Herald reported on May 6, 1880 – “The ladies of Chester gave a festival last Friday at the Female Academy for the benefit of the Pres. Parsonage. They raised $50,000. a lot has been procured and a house will be soon erected for the parsonage.”
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on July 6, 1880 – “Work is progressing rapidly on the new parsonage of the Pres. Church.”

The Rock Hill Record reported on June 7, 1909 – “There was a thunderstorm in Chester on Saturday. The parsonage of Dr. Chalmers Frazier of the Pres. Church was struck by lightning and damaged.”
The first occupant of the Purity Presbyterian church manse was the Rev. George A. Trenholm, who moved here in the circa 1880’s. The home served successive pastors until it was sold in 1920 when a new manse was built at 147 York Street.
