The Brawley-Nail home is one of Chester’s fine home on the outskirts of the old town. Mr. Hiram C. Brawley acquired the property in circa 1856 and built the house for Elizabeth C. Brawley, the wife of Richard Nail the same year. Due to Nail’s financial problems, the property was given to a trustee, Mr. S.W. Mobley, (see receipt below and caption), to hold for Mrs. Nail, who built the large dwelling on the Brawley property, “Soon after the purchase of said lot…. a large and valuable dwelling was erected.” The property was sold to A.H. Davega in 1870.
