City Directories and History: Reported to have been constructed in 1890 for Dr. E.C. Jones. This home began as an excellent example of Gothic Revival architecture and later was remodeled to appear more modern in the 20th century.
The Rock Hill Herald reported on Jan. 25, 1883 – “A major fire at Newberry destroyed two brick stores belonging to James A. Crotwell with a loss of $10,000. The W.E. Pelham Drugs and Medicines with a $7,000. loss. The Peace Company a bar and billiards room loss of $3,000. Silas Johnson law office and books lost $1,000. Wheeler Brothers Confectionary lost $2,500. L.A. East Drugs and Medicines lost $2,000. and Dr. E.C. Jones dental instruments and office lost $500.”
