City Directories and History: The Herald reported on May 2, 1889 – “Mr. W. A. Davis of Lancaster will remove his photographic gallery to Rock Hill and will probably bring his family.” Later the Herald ran an ad on “June 13, 1889 – contained an ad for Mr. Davis, a photographer in Rock Hill.”
A 1924 Lancaster, S.C. newspaper announced that T.F. Shoemaker from Statesville, N.C., took over the W.A. Davis Photo Studio, and that “Mr. Davis has been operating for 43 years in Studio of Moore Building.” Shoemaker operated the studio for about ten years.
