City Directories and History: Recorded as both the home of Washington Ladd, the store keeper, as well as the Wilkes-Ladd historic home. It was most likely constructed in the second quarter of the 19th century, circa 1840, on a simple house plan rarely seen in Fairfield County but nevertheless, one commonly used further north in Chester County. The house was located about three hundred feet behind the Ladd’s General Store.
