City Directories and History: The Longtown Baptist Church is no longer but the cemetery which stood nearby remains a focal point of the once very prosperous Longtown community. Many of the fine architectural features of the area were situated along a high ridge overlooking the Wateree river valley. This high ground also offered excellent footing for one of the area’s early roads.
The Peay family who resided west of this site were prominent members and supporters of the Longtown Baptist church. Their cemetery plot remains one of the regions outstanding examples of 19th century funeral architecture.

I would suggest contacting Pelham Lyles at the Fairfeild County Museum in Winnsboro. She might be the best person to assist you.
