City Directories and History: One of the earliest recorded homes from the mid 18th century, the McCraw – Hawes log cabin represents hundreds of other fine log homes that once dotted the Fairfield County landscape, providing security and shelter to thousands of early families. Many of these log cabins remain hidden inside the interior walls of larger dwellings and are often only revealed when the home is damaged or remodeled.
This happened recently in York County, Dec. 2013, when a fire damaged an older home revealing massive log timbers in the dwelling that had not been seen for decades. Unfortunately this dwelling will be razed shortly after the owners take images of the damaged home.
