City Directories and History: This was an important home and educational center in the Bethel-Greenbrier community of rural Fairfield County. It was primarily the home of the Trapp family. The school was opened in 1853 by Chappell Oscar Trapp (1818-1875), the son of Zachariah and Mary Chappell Trapp. He was a graduate of the Un. of South Carolina in 1841, married Adelaide Powell in circa 1853 and is reported to have received the first teachers certificate in the state in April of 1870.
The historic survey team in 1983 recognized this dwelling would not last much longer and took extensive images of the dwelling which R&R is pleased to share with our audience. Also see the page for the marker erected by family members on the second Chappell Oscar Trapp page listing.
