City Directories and History: “Aimwell Church on Cedar Creek first appears on the records of the Old Presbytery of South Carolina. The date is October 25, 1799, just before the Old Presbytery was divided into the First and Second Presbyteries. Its location is designated as being about eight miles west of Winnsboro at the present town of Ridgeway in Fairfield District. The first church building seems to have been constructed about 1799 on land given by Francis Robinson. John Rosborough was the first elder. The Rev. George Reid, ordained at Zion Church in Winnsboro, who also was principal of Mount Zion College, Winnsboro, preached to this church for about seven years before he moved to Camden.”
