The Fairfield News and Herald reported on Feb. 6, 1884 – “The firm of Gooding and Elliott, is dissolved by mutual consent on Feb. 1, 1884. Partners are T.K. Elliott and R.C. Gooding.”
City Directories and History: Built by the Gooding family in the late nineteenth century. Later remodeled and enlarged. Became home of the Jennings family in the 1930’s. Miss Lola Jennings reared her four half sisters and brothers here after the death of their father. They were Marvin, Charles, Marion, and Joy Jennings. The next residents were Mr. and Mrs. William Cathcart who reared their daughters here. Mr. and Mrs. August Brandin next owned it. Presently its owners are Mr. and Mrs. Helms.
This home was constructed in circa 1880 by a Mr. Elliott.

This house was built by Henry Laurens Elliott, a planter and one-time president of the Planters Bank of Fairfield, likely as a wedding present for my great-great-grandparents, Robert Carpenter and Ella Elliott Gooding, who were married in 1879.
