City Directories and History: Built around 1836-38, this home was for many years the manse of the A.R.P. church. Classic two and one half story building has two large interior chimneys. The front entrance has a beautiful fan light entrance which is repeated on the second floor, opening on the balcony. In the late 19th century the house had beautiful Chippendale balustrades around the porches and lovely landscaping.
The home was occupied by members of the Johnson family until circa 1860, when it was sold to Samuel Jackson. Two years later, it was resold to A.R. Taft of Charleston, S.C. who transferred ownership to Serna Martin. It passed through a number of hands until 1894 when it became the A.R.P. Manse until 1946 when Dr. Oliver Johnson purchased the home.
