City Directories and History: The 1912 Sanborn Map shows this as a brick structure housing a dry goods store at approximately #43-45 South Congress Street.
The next three brick stores were built by Sailing Wolfe whose late 19th century residence stands today at 208 S. Congress Street. In these buildings were many different businesses in the 20th century. Mr. Wolfe ran a dry goods business in one of them followed by Troy Lumpkin’s bar. Later residents included Dr. W. E. Aiken’s drug store later to become J. Riley McMaster’s business which finally evolved into The Colonial Drug store run by Mark Stevens until it became Hoots in the 1990’s. The Propst family ran a ladies’ and gentlemen’s clothier business in the next property for two generations. [Courtesy J.M. Lyles]
